  • About

I have played and DM'd : Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition, Dungeons and Dragons 3.0, Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, Dungeons and Dragons 4.0

I have played : White wolf, D20 Modern.  Don't ever want to play White wolf again.

I want to play: Pathfinder, Mechwarrior.

While DnD 4.0 does have some nice concepts, I really get frustrated with their skill system (where the difficulty is based on player levels) and how they completely destroyed the magic system.  DnD 4.0 sacrificed too much for the sake of balance.  I have been researching pathfinder and feel that it has addressed a lot of the issues I had with 3.5 and looks like it will be my preferred system.

I am a DM who plays the monsters/npcs as I think they would play with the information that they have.  If the monsters ever do something that plays against a party's weakness then it is because they have researched or discovered the party's weakness (usually only done by reoccuring villans or criminal masterminds) or just what I happened to pick as I plan the campaign.

If I am planning an undead campaign, and someone picks a cleric, then I still do the undead campaign.  I am very much opposed to adversarial GM'ing but I may joke about it and lament that the party survived but I am never serious.

I am an easier GM than average (but not by much) when the party is playing smart and will pull punches if I feel I made it too tough, but if the party is playing dumb then I will don't pull any punches.  If the party outsmarts me and slaughters what I sent after them then kudos to them.

I also don't tolerate interparty conflict. While many people realize it is just a game, you never know if the person getting harrassed is feeling hurt inside and just not speaking up.  I also keep my campaigns PG rated so I don't have to worry if my nephews are participating or watching.

I also like to do long running campaigns with characters that have detailed backstory and I sometimes like to have sessions where stuff from the character's past comes up.

I plan on using D20Pro when I GM a session.

I am busy in real life.  I am on call at work 5 times a year for 2 weeks each time which will make it so I can't commit to playing every single week.  My biggest project is finishing my basement.
